4 Reasons Why Arrow Is Ending With Final Season 8
Ever since premiering in 2012 on CW Arrow has been one of the most successful superhero shows in the entirety of television. But recently it was announced that the DC comics-based successful show would be cut down to only ten seasons. Fans were startled to hear this because there were not any signs of the Arrowverse slowing down, so this news came as a sort of an unpleasant surprise to them. The Arrowverse included The Flash, Supergirl, Black Lightning, and also Legends of Tomorrow.
Why is Arrow Ending After Season 8?
1- Slowly decreasing viewership
When you hear that a show is ending, then the first reason that comes to mind is the ratings and viewership. Although the case is not exactly true with Arrow, it is a fact that the show has started to lose it viewership from 2017. The show was shifted to Thursday nights where it was hoped that it would gain numbers through the superhit show Supernatural, but it did not pay off as they hoped it would. Although in 2019 the drop in viewership was 19% it still was not enough as to alone put it to an end, considering it was always ahead of Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow. So here comes the second reason.
2- Overuse of Superheroes recently
In recent years the entertainment verse has been filled with the term superheroes, and it is explanatory because the term brings in money for the investors. From Avengers to Aquaman to Black Widow, the TV was filled with superheroes recently.
However, Arrow was the victim of its creator, CW. CW has been pushing the superhero genre so much that there were four consecutive shows running under their name of the said genre. The Arrowverse was already a crowded place with all this, and CW even wanted to put Catwoman and Superwoman in the list too, and this did not pay off as CW would have hoped.
3- It is a perfect time for it
Arrow is known for combining the Arrowverse annually starting from 2014 where there was Arrow vs. Flash scenario. In 2018, Elseworld was the name given to the crossover of the Arrowverse, which included three storylines Supergirl, Arrow, and The Flash.
Seeing the show has outdone what was expected from it, and it even helped kick off some other shows, it is a long time due that Oliver Queen should be given some rest and hopefully a satisfying ending.
4- Repetitive plot and storyline
The show in the starting seasons was original with the storyline and events but later just got turned into a shadow of its former self. Constant flashbacks of the Lian Yu island where Oliver was supposed to be stranded, but he left the island three times to travel over three continents and came back like he never left it. Also, the show became a little too illogical, including dark magic in the twist. Even the constant dilemma of Oliver against his darker self turned old quickly.
So overall it was a high time coming for the show which has already outdone itself.
